CAIRO, Sept 25, 2018 (MENA) - Egyptian Minister of Planning Hala Saeed on Tuesday asserted that Egypt is proud of its African belonging.

The remark was made in a speech to a workshop that is organized by Al Azhar University in cooperation with the African Universities Union and was read out by here deputy Ghada Labib.

The minister noted that Egypt is always supporting African causes and works for enhancing cooperation and coordination with other African countries in the economic and development fields, according to a statement released by the ministry.

The minister highlighted efforts by the Egyptian government for achieving social and economic development for creating a better future for the Egyptian people and the region as well.


CAIRO, Sept 16, 2018 – Co-operation for development between Egypt and African countries especially in the health sector picked renewed momentum on Sunday with the announcement that the prestigious Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation will partner with the Foreign Ministry in incorporating heart treatment services into Egyptian technical assistance programmes for African countries. News of this significant arrangement was unveiled following a meeting between Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and the world-famous Egyptian-British cardiothoracic surgeon Magdi Yacoub.

The prospects of co-operation between the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), an affiliate of the Foreign Ministry, were the matter for consideration at a meeting between Minister Shoukri and Dr Yacoub yesterday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

The Aswan-based foundation is a centre of excellence in advanced cardio-surgery and therapy. The facility’s founder, Sir Magdi Yacoub, is Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College, London,  and is also the founder and Director of Research at the Harefield Heart Science Centre (The Magdi Yacoub Institute)

Yesterday’s Shoukri-Yacoub meeting came as part of Egypt’s efforts to enhance the health component in the EAPD assistance programmes especially including training courses and equipment, Spokesman Abu Zeid said. The Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, he added, is a model at the level of all Africa since it has a capacity for qualifying cardiotherapy centres and training the cadres and staff of such centres.

Egypt, the Foreign Ministry spokesman noted, stands keen on the transfer of developmental expertise to other countries of the continent. He made reference in this context to the foundation pioneering role as so represented by the launching in Ethiopia of a special unit for cardio-surgey and cardio-therapy.


CAIRO, Sept 16, 2018 (MENA) - Egypt's national handball team, who have been crowned champions of the 2018 African Youth Championship, returned home from Marrakesh on Sunday.

The Pharaohs achieved a 30-22 victory on Tunisia in the final, scoring their sixth successive win at the tournament, which was played as a one-leg league.

In addition to be crowned the African champions, the team picked a seat at the Youth World Championship.

Egypt, Morocco, Guinea, Tunisia, Algeria, Nigeria and Angola competed at the tournament that was hosted by Morocco.

ALGIERS, Sept 16, 2018 - Head of the Egyptian Swimming Federation Yasser Edris said the national team returned to dominate Africa after a break since the 1990s.

South African swimmers have dominated the continental tournaments for many years before the Egyptians restored their top ranks at Algeria's competitions, Edris told MENA.

Coach of the national team Mohamed el Desouki said the 11-member national team made a great achievement against the 22-member S. African competitor.

Egypt were crowned champions of the 13th CANA Swimming & Open Water Championships, concluded in Algiers Saturday.

The country topped the tournament, bagging 44 medals, including 27 golds, 14 silvers and three bronzes.

CAIRO, Sept 14, 2018 (MENA) - Egypt, in coordination with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), will host activities of the 8th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW) in August in 2019, Egyptian Agriculture Minister Ezzeldin Abu Stait said.

His announcement came during the signing ceremony of a cooperation protocol on the measures to be taken to organize AASW. The protocol was inked by Abu Stait and Chairman of FARA Board of Directors Ephraim Amiani Mukisira.

Abu Stait asserted that the African continent is promising for investments and has great investment potentials that can be used in achieving sustainable agricultural development for the benefit of the African nations and accomplishing food security.

The AASW is to be held to discuss Africa's benefiting from innovations to overcome agricultural risks, Abu Stait said.

The event is very important for Egypt as it will help it explore and discover its own potentials and boost cooperation with fellow African states, he also said.

It also offers a good opportunity for exchanging expertise in the field of agriculture and determining the main steps that could be taken by the African countries together to achieve their common goals, he added.

Meanwhile, Head of the Agricultural Research Center Mahmoud Madani asserted the importance of FARA for achieving sustainable agricultural development.

Some 1,500 participants from Africa will attend the event that is held every three years and gathers together all stakeholders in African agriculture science, technology and innovation to take stock of their collective achievements over the past three years and craft a common agenda along with modalities for achieving their collective targets over the next three years.


CAIRO, Sept 14, 2018 (MENA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry returned home on Friday coming from Addis Ababa after attending meetings of the African Commission reform that was followed by a visit to Eritrea.

His visit to Asmara was meant to discuss means of boosting bilateral relations, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid.

Also, the Egyptian top diplomat carried a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to his Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki on pushing up bilateral relations in all domains, added the spokesman.
