Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Dr Hala Zayed, signed a co-operation protocol between the government and the private sector for the establishment of a medical centre that uses proton technology in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr Khaled Abdel Ghafar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The protocol relates to a partnership agreement between the Arab Holding Group and a British Hospital for the establishment of the centre in Cairo at a total cost of LE3 billion. The centre will be completed within a couple of years.
Dr Zayed said that the agreement stipulates the establishment of an international centre using proton technology for the first time in Africa. It will be under the supervision of experts in this field from the United Kingdom, who are pioneers in this domain.
She said that this would enhance the diagnosis and treatment of many difficult diseases, especially tumours of the spine and eye.
