ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, July 10, 2018 (MENA) - Egypt's Bibliotheca Alexandrina Map Library in co-operation with The National Institute of Oceanography will organise a ceremony on Wednesday to mark the World Oceans Day at the BA's main auditorium.

The ceremony will include screening a film on the plastic pollution of oceans and encouraging solutions for a healthy ocean.

 The event underlines the keenness of the BA to spread awareness on protecting the environment. It also comes in line with efforts on protecting the marine environment and preserving sea resources against severe pollution problems with the aim of achieving sustainable development plans for 2030.

CAIRO, JULY 5, 2018 - The Writing and Scripts Centre at Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) launched the "Hieroglyphs Step by Step" website (http://bit.ly/2KNayyG) in co-operation with the BA Information Technology Department.

The website is the first electronic platform for learning hieroglyphics as it targets teaching the old Egyptian language to students of the Egyptian universities and those who are interested in hieroglyphics.

In statements Thursday, Head of Bibliotheca Alexandrina Dr Moustafa el-Fiki said that the website includes an online dictionary in both Arabic and English, adding that the first phase of the venture was launched in 2015. 
The project is a long-term one which is enriched with scientific content continuously, he asserted, noting that the dictionary of the website includes 6,300 words in hieroglyphs and their synonyms.

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, July 3, 2018 (MENA) - Bibliotheca Alexandrina will participate in the 21st conference of the Egyptian Library, Information and Archives Association (ELA) that will be held at the Main Hall of the National Archives of Egypt in Cairo's Fustat district on July 8-10.

The conference will be held in collaboration with the Egyptian National Library and Archives.

The main theme of the conference this year is "Information Facilities in the Digital Age and Future Prospects: The Inevitability of Change and Transformation".

The conference will be held under the patronage of Culture Minister Enas Abdel Dayem, head of the General Authority of the National Library and Archives in Cairo Hesham Azmi, and ELA chairman Amany Megahed.

The conference will discuss the Digital Age and its influence on the different information facilities.

ALEXANDRIA, May 21, 2018 - The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Antiquities Museum will celebrate the International Museum Day on Tuesday from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the BA Conference Centre East Exhibitions Hall. 

During the celebration, the Antiquities Museum will hold workshops for 30 children showcasing their creativity and artistic skills.

The event will commence with a historical background of the selected antiquities from various eras (ancient Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Byzantine and Islamic), then participants will work on imitating them using different materials, the BA said in a statement released on Monday.

CAIRO, May 3, 2018 - The Bibliotheca Alexandrina will organise on Saturday an event entitled “She Can”, in support of women entrepreneurs, to provide them with more training and educational opportunities.

The Director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Dr Mustafa el-Fekky, said that the event would host a number of women entrepreneurs who had been successful in  the media, education, and technology.

“There will also be technical sessions on time-management, how to prepare a business plan, and the social life-business challenge, El-Fekky added.

He noted that women’s empowerment was a top priority for the government, NGOs, and international societies.  

 

 

CAIRO, April 19, 2018 - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi presided over a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Cairo on Thursday.

In his speech before the meeting, President Sisi praised the library's role in promoting academic and cultural activities across the world.

He described it as a place for the advancement of human knowledge and a beacon of cultural and civilizational radiation.
