CAIRO, Sept 23, 2018 (MENA) - Egyptian ministers of environment, trade and industry, petroleum, investment and electricity will attend on Monday the wrapping up of a project on improving industrial energy efficiency in Egypt with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The event will be attended by Giovanna Ceglie, Regional Director of the UNIDO which carried out the project in cooperation with ministries concerned in Egypt, the Egyptian Organization For Standardization & Quality (EOS), the Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC) and the Federation Of Egyptian Industries (FEI).
The project sought over the past six years to address some of the key barriers to industrial energy efficiency (IEE), to deliver measurable results and to make an impact on how Egyptian industries manage energy through an integrated approach that combines capacity building and technical assistance interventions at the policy and energy efficiency project level.
Primary target groups of the project included industrial decision-makers (managers), engineers, vendors and other professionals and IEE policy- making and/or implementing institutions.
The project’s ultimate goal has been to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by establishing a policy environment that enables and supports sustainable adoption of energy efficient technologies and management as an integral part of industries’ business practices; an environment in which a cadre of well-trained and equipped experts in system optimization and energy management assists industries in developing and implementing energy efficiency improvement projects.
A cooperation protocol is expected to be signed by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency and UNIDO to shore up financing for projects aimed at enhancing industrial energy efficiency in Egypt.
