ROUNDUP - Gov't draws up nationwide plan for safe feast holiday
CAIRO, August 19, 2018 - The government has drawn up a comprehensive plan for the Eid El-Adha (feast of sacrifice) celebration.
During the feast holiday, many Egyptians like to spend time at the beach and to go for outings to various locations.
According to one of the websites for hotel reservations, the rate of hotel occupancy went up for the dates from the start of the feast up to the end of August.
The cabinet has set up a central operations unit, for the duration of the feast, to deal with any emergencies or complains.
According to a statement by the cabinet, the operations unit is due to follow-up the domestic situation and coordinate the activities of all the bodies concerned, so as to ensure a quick response to any emergency.
According to the statement, there will be operations units in all the cities and governorates. All the units will send regular reports to the cabinet to update it on the recent developments nationwide.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply, Fathi Rashed, said that sufficient supplies of commodities, foodstuffs, livestock and fresh beef were being provided during the feast to meet the demands of the public.
He added that all the Egyptian bread bakeries would be open during the feast; and every type of fuel would be available in large amounts.
Ramadan Eshaq, from the Ministry of Health, said that the hospitals, medical centres, health units and ambulances of the health sector had been placed on full alert to deal with any emergency.
Atef Ahmed, the general manager of the Luxor veterinarian directorate, said that the city’s public slaughter house would be open for free.
“Specialised veterinarians will be on duty to ensure that proper procedures are followed in the slaughtering of animals,” he said.
