CAIRO, June 24, 2018 (MENA) - The Transport Ministry and the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) signed on Sunday a cooperation protocol to enhance river transport between Upper and Lower Egypt.

The ministry seeks to benefit from the great potentials of the SCA and the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) in promoting river transport, said Transport Minister Hisham Arafat.

He noted that cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority will help increase the volume of commodities being transported via the Nile River from 4.2 to 20 million tons.

Arafat said lifting the subsidy on fuel will help restore the role of river transport as one of the main pivots of transportation in Egypt.

The protocol aims at upgrading the infrastructure of the river transport system, carrying out dredging works between Nagaa Hamadi and Qanater and establishing river safety units.

Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) Mohab Mamish said the SCA and SCZone will mobilise all their potentials to boost the river transport system as it will manufacture 1,000 lifebuoys for the River Transport Authority and will give a hand in dredging works along the river course.

Egypt participates in the 18th Games with 170 players.

‎TARRAGONA, June 24, 20128 (MENA) - Egypt's weightlifter Heba Saleh won a new bronze medal for Egypt at the Mediterranean Games in the Spanish city of Tarragona.

Saleh achieved the third place in the 48kg weightlifting competition.

Egypt participates in the 18th Games with 170 players.

 

 

TARRAGONA, Spain, June 24, 2018 (MENA) - Weightlifter Ahmed Saad secured two gold medals for Egypt in 62 KG weightlifting competitions at the XVIII Mediterranean Games Tarragona 2018.

Also, swimmer Marwan Elkamash and karate athlete Malek Gomaa added two bronze medals earlier in the day, lifting Egypt's collection to two golds and four bronzes.

Egypt participates in the 18th edition of the Mediterranean Games with 170 players. Tarragona is hosting the tournament between June 22 and July 1.

CAIRO, June 24 , 2018(MENA) - Petroleum Minister Tarek el Molla will take part in the 27th session of the 2018 World Gas Conference (WGC), to kick off in Washington on Monday.

The participation comes in response to an invitation by WGC head David Carrol.

As part of the conference activities, Molla will participate Monday in the Senior Officials Programme which discusses geopolitical factors of natural gas.

Egypt is keen to take part in all international and regional conferences and forums that address natural gas to benefit from major gas-producing states' experiments in addressing challenges of this industry, Molla said in a statement.

The WGC is one of the major world conferences concerned with the latest developments of the gas industry, he added.

The conference will address the most timely technical, commercial and strategic issues as well as promising fields of the gas industry.

The conference convenes once every three years, he added.

The conference is a good chance to hold talks with US officials on fostering cooperation as regards turning Egypt into a regional energy hub, Molla said.

More than 600 senior officials operating in the gas and petroleum domains are taking part in the conference in addition to heads of major companies like BP, Shell, Chevron, Total and Exxon Mobil.

CAIRO, June 24, 2018 (MENA) - Prime Minister and Housing Minister Mostafa Madbouli  on Sunday made a field visit to an under-construction residential district in the New Administrative Capital, a few days before housing units are offered for sale.

The premier had a meeting with senior officials of companies that are carrying out the project, urging them to step up the implementation rate, said the Housing Ministry in a press release.

He told them that according to presidential directives the residential district should be ready for housing before June 30, 2019.

"Therefore, each company must strictly abide by the deadlines for completion of its units. Landscaping for the buildings that have been completed should be also finished on schedule", the PM was quoted as saying.

On the implementation of the residential district, which is overseen by the Ministry of Housing, Eng. Mohamed Abdel Maksoud, the head of the New Administrative Capital, said the residential district covers an area of ​​1,000 feddans. It contains eight neighbourhoods with 699 residential buildings that include 19,992 housing units plus 952 villas and townhouses.

It also includes 64 multi-purpose buildings and nine buildings in the Green Oasis area, which in turn houses the central services of the district, he added.
According to the construction plans, the area will have a total of 23,064 residential and commercial units, he also said.

He noted that finishing touches of the first stage of the residential buildings were being implemented at an execution rate of 80 to 85 per cent.
